This Week's Menu

In my absence from blogging we ate, however, it was nothing spectacular. Like I can't thinking of anything besides homemade pizza that was so fantastic that I want to mention it.

Of course, it could be because my memory seems to be getting worse and worse, but that is a post for another day...

Kaleb has swimming lessons twice a week now, which are great for learning, but a huge PITA when it comes to supper.  Why you ask? Because his lessons are at 6, meaning we are at the pool from 5:45 to 6:45. Kaleb and I get home at 5:10 or later and Jason at 5:00. When are we suppose to make supper AND eat it? So we rely on the crockpot or the automatic turn on function on the oven. It's a challenge.

Please keep all that in mind when you peruse this week's menu:

Monday: Freezer Pork Chops on the BBQ with baked potato and corn

Tuesday: Taco Salad with previously cooked (and vacuum sealed) ground beef.

Wednesday: Boneless Chicken things on the BBQ with potatoes and broccoli

Thursday: Crockpot Stew

Friday: Homemade Pizza

As you can see, there's nothing special but hey, it works!

Great Cloth Diaper Change 2013

In case you missed it, Earth Day was yesterday.

Earth is my favourite planet, so I like to try to do my part so that it doesn't implode from all the nastiness we (humans) subject it to.

One of those things is Cloth Diapering. (Check out my initial post on this subject)

Besides the immense cuteness factor, cloth diapering is quite awesome for the planet. Did you know that disposable diapers take somewhere between 100-500 years to decompose in landfills? With the average child going through over 6000 disposables in 2.5 years, that is a whole lot of gross leaching into our soil and in turn, water.

Anyways..... back to the Great Cloth Diaper Change. It began 2 years ago as a family friendly way to celebrate Earth Day, but quickly transformed into a Guinness World Record attempt for changing the most cloth diapers simultaneously. Since then, it has become extremely popular in the cloth diaper community; last year's event had 8,251 participants around the world.

We participated last year with our "local" cloth diaper store, and this year they took it one step further: turning the event into a fundraiser for the maternity ward as well as a chance for local eco/green companies to feature their products.

So at 6:45 in the morning on a Saturday, we were leaving our driveway to head to our "local" event 2 hours away. We arrived shortly after 9 a.m. and spent the entire morning there, checking out the vendors, participating in the silent auction, doing some daddy & baby yoga and of course participating in the main event! There ended up being 48 participants!!

We spent the rest of the day in the "city" going to a sushi restaurant and shopping. We got home around 8:30 that night, exhausted but happy. We had a great day with our well behaved little boy, who threw no toddler fits despite only getting an hour or so of sleep the whole day! (Yes, I am one proud mama!)

So without further ado, check out some our pictures from the event, including some professional ones:

Why Hello There

Well, it's been over a month since I last posted. Blogging fail.

What can I say, I've been busy and sadly my blog took a back seat. I've now decided to make time to blog. Why? Because it is something that I truly enjoy that doesn't take a lot of time out of my life.

We were talking at work today about things that we enjoy, yet don't have time for. My coworker said something that really resonated with me: You need to make time to do things you enjoy

Does this mean I'm going to ignore my child during the 3 hours that he is awake with us per day? Absolutely not. It does however mean, that after he goes to bed or before he wakes in the morning, I am going to take some me time, and do things I enjoy.

It also doesn't mean that I am going to ignore my husband either! Once Kaleb is in bed, it is our time. Although I do think that we can do better things in those 2 hours other then sitting like zombies on the couch watching tv.

So there you have it. Even though I know I've said this before, I am not going to let my blog go by the way side.

What do you make time for??
