This Week's Menu

Last week was another busy week at our house but for the most part, we were able to stay on track menu wise. The PF Chang's Chicken was simply amazing as always and the rest of the week was pretty good too.

This week will be another simple week (I seem to say that often) but it's true. I'll be on the go as always with the kiddos, Jason has come down with a cold and we're heading home this weekend so we need to prepare for that.

Saturday: Steak with peppercorn sauce

Sunday: Supper at my mom's

Monday: Pasta with rose sauce Homemade soup for my sickly husband

Tuesday: Sausage with jasmine rice

Wednesday: Super Bean Burrito

Thursday: Pizza

Friday: Fast food

This Week's Menu

Last week I didn't do a menu post for a couple reasons: a) I forgot and b) it wasn't very exciting and changed a couple times. My lovely husband was out of town Wednesday and didn't have supper with us on Thursday so it made for simple, quick meals. Super simple actually, my mom took us out for supper on Wednesday! The other nights I made Lasagna, Super Bean Burritos (again) and Mac and Cheese.

This week's menu will be as follows:

Saturday: Salad with ground chicken in a taco bowl.
I can't get enough of the PF Chang's Lettuce Wraps recipe. I am seriously in love. Especially when I can get a pound of ground chicken for $4! Hello, cheap dinner!

Sunday: Whole chicken with mashed potatoes, stuffing, veg and gravy

Monday: Leftovers. With Cauliflower

Tuesday: Pizza with (hopefully) chicken on it

Wednesday: Pork chops with rice

Thursday: Pasta with rose sauce.
For this recipe I just skip the wine and use more broth.

Friday: TBA

This Week's Menu

Last week was short and it was great! We had lettuce wraps, which are quite possibly my favourite meal. I love those things! This time we changed it up though: I just got up the lettuce and put the meat mixture on top. We also had bean burritos again, and again, they were awesome! Especially with a little bit of fresh lime squeezed on top. Yum.  I ended up making a Sweet Potato/Carrot/White Potato mash to go with the chicken and it was also really good. It was nice to have something other then the standard rice or potatoes.

This week we strayed from our routine. We went to the grocery store Saturday planning on just picking up fruit, but ended up doing our groceries.

SaturdayMoose steaks with peppercorn sauce and Barley with vegetables

Sunday: Weekly supper at my moms

Monday: "Homemade" Spaghetti with "meatballs"
I'll be posting in this week's Tips and Tricks what exactly this means.

Tuesday: Chicken thighs with sweet potato oven fries
I flipped through a cookbook while visiting my dad and came across sweet potato wedge fries. Basically you slice them on a mandolin, toss in olive oil and bake in the oven. We'll try it and see what happens.

Wednesday: Freezer dive

Thursday: Lettuce wraps and rice
I seriously love these things! And when the ground chicken was on sale cheap, I picked up 3 for the freezer, so it's technically a freezer dive.

Friday: Pizza!

This Week's Menu

Last week was good. We were busy prepping and getting ready to go home that the week just flew by.  I had planned to make some sort of burrito on Wednesday, preferably meatless. After quite a bit of searching, I found this recipe for Super Bean Burritos and boy was it good!

This week's menu won't be complicated, since we didn't get home until last night and we're exhausted. It's always enjoyable going home, but late nights and early mornings take a toll.

Monday: We bummed supper at my mom's

Tuesday: Lettuce Wraps with Jasmine Rice

Wednesday: Garlic Brown Sugar Chicken with Sweet Potato something

Thursday: Bean Burritos

Friday: Pizza!!

This Week's Menu

Last week turned out really good. The turkey was amazing, as turkey always is. The mustard sauce for the pulled pork was really good, the pork was ok. I don't *love* pork shoulder in general, so it's hard for me to rave about it.

This week's menu is all about freezer diving. We cleaned out / organized our freezers yesterday and realized we have a ton of food in them.

Saturday: We went out for supper at the fancy restaurant with friends.

Sunday: Shepard's pie

Monday: Porchetta with rice
We bought this back in November from the fancy grocery store in the next city over. We cooked half and froze the other. It was delish and I can't wait for Monday!

Tuesday: Whole chicken with mashed potatoes
Yes, we vacuumed sealed a whole chicken. I'll throw it in the crockpot in the morning with an onion, some garlic, bay leaves, salt, pepper, thyme and a couple broth ice cubes. The skin won't get crispy, but it'll give me a really good broth.

Wednesday: some sort of burritos

Thursday: Finger foods and spicy fries.
The only processed food in the freezer. We have it on hand for the desperate or lazy nights. I foresee Thursday as being a lazy night.

Friday: We'll be travelling back home for Annabel's baptism Sunday, so Wendy's?

This Week's Menu

We have a renewed sense of living on the cheap here at Our little Northern Life. So as a result, our weekly menus are even more simplified. We only buy meat if it's on sale (and at a good price) and frequently freezer dive. But here's the thing with freezer diving in our house - we freezer dive for real food. We've stopped buying processed food and we've noticed a big difference on our grocery bill. That's not to say that we've stopped striving for low bills though. If our bill is under $100 per week - I consider that a huge success!

With that said, this week's flyer was uninspiring. (Yes, flyer, singular - we only have one grocery store.) We bought a pork roast for pulled pork and some sausage, that's it in terms of meat. So we decided to cook the turkey we had in the freezer on Sunday, which would give us 2 additional meals, plus lunches, plus at least one freezer package. We also have some wild meat in there, so we had that with a relatively new recipe - barley and vegetables. So good, so easy. Anyway, enough with the jibber jabber, onto the menu:

I made a few alterations on these recipes since I didn't have all the ingredients on hand. For the peppercorn sauce: thyme sprig = dried thyme, green peppercorns = fresh cracked pepper, grainy dijon mustard = regular dijon mustard and I skipped the brandy altogether. For the barley, I simply made it with carrots, celery, onion and beef broth for the liquid.

Sunday: Turkey with mashed potatoes, stuffing, gravy.

Monday: Turkey Quesadillas

Tuesday:  Pulled pork with mustard bbq sauce and macaroni salad
Again for this pulled pork recipe I didn't have all the ingredients, such as the bacon, thyme, jalapeno and grainy mustard. I just skipped them, except the grainy mustard where again I used dijon.

Wednesday: Fettucini alfredo with turkey

Thursday: Sausage and basmati rice

Friday: Pizza!

Monday: Broken down chicken (freezer) with sliced potatoes (all on the bbq)

Tuesday: Bacon wrapped pork tenderloin (sale!) with home fries

Hope you have a good week!

This Week's Menu

Last week was pretty good as usual, even the crockpot meals. It's one thing we are looking forward to be over when Kaleb is done this round of lessons. My poor hubby is sick and tired of them! Taco night was fantastic, so much so that we're having it again this week and I can't wait! The pizza was pretty awesome too.

This week's menu:

Saturday: Pork chops with baked potatoes

Sunday: Steak with mushrooms and shrimp, sliced bbq potatoes, potato skins and vegetable skewers

Monday: BBQ Chicken thighs with oven fries

Tuesday: Crockpot pork roast with rice

Wednesday: Taco night! (Marinated Chicken and Steak with Mango Avocado Salsa, lettuce, cheese and sour cream)

Thursday: Taco Salad (We cook the meat the night before, then we just need to take 2 minutes to reheat in the skillet, works great!)

Friday: Pizza

Hope you have a fantastic week food wise :)

This week's menu

Last week was pretty good. The Chicken thighs turned out to not be boneless, but were still delicious; and I amazed myself with my stew. Friday we ended up having Chinese and it was yum.

This week's menu:

Saturday: Hamburgers with oven fries

Sunday: Tacos (it is Cinco de Mayo after all)

Monday: Big Fat Question Mark. I'll be out of town for a course, Jason will be arriving late from a meeting so he'll just eat whatever when he gets home. Luckily Kaleb's babysitter will give him supper, which I'm sure will be good!

Tuesday: Crockpot chicken and rice goulash

Wednesday: Sausage and potatoes on the BBQ

Thursday: Crockpot spaghetti sauce and noodles

Friday: Homemade pizza! (I have a renewed obsession)

This Week's Menu

In my absence from blogging we ate, however, it was nothing spectacular. Like I can't thinking of anything besides homemade pizza that was so fantastic that I want to mention it.

Of course, it could be because my memory seems to be getting worse and worse, but that is a post for another day...

Kaleb has swimming lessons twice a week now, which are great for learning, but a huge PITA when it comes to supper.  Why you ask? Because his lessons are at 6, meaning we are at the pool from 5:45 to 6:45. Kaleb and I get home at 5:10 or later and Jason at 5:00. When are we suppose to make supper AND eat it? So we rely on the crockpot or the automatic turn on function on the oven. It's a challenge.

Please keep all that in mind when you peruse this week's menu:

Monday: Freezer Pork Chops on the BBQ with baked potato and corn

Tuesday: Taco Salad with previously cooked (and vacuum sealed) ground beef.

Wednesday: Boneless Chicken things on the BBQ with potatoes and broccoli

Thursday: Crockpot Stew

Friday: Homemade Pizza

As you can see, there's nothing special but hey, it works!

This Week's Menu

Last week was a mega success! We ended up doing Southern Fried Chicken on Sunday, and really, how can you go wrong with that? The potatoes were also amazing, I seriously recommend trying them. They'll be delish on the bbq this summer too! Both the pasta and chicken turned out pretty good too and will most likely be making it on the menu again in the future.

I ended up doing the pizza rolls the week before and they were a great change. For Friday, Jason found a recipe for Broccoli and Cheese Panzerotti which were good in theory, however we overcooked the broccoli, which made them not so great according to me.  The only thing that was really disappointing was the pork chops; they ended up being soggy, good taste, but soggy.

Onto this week:

Saturday:  Oven chicken wings, beer batter onion rings, deep friend pickles (with the same batter) and fries.

Sunday: Roast with mashed potatoes

Monday: Meatless Spaghetti

Tuesday: Salmon and Rice

Wednesday: Pulled chicken and macaroni salad

Thursday: Taco salad

FridayPepperoni Pizza Rolls

This Week's Menu

Lately I've been feeling very uninspired with meal planning. We're doing the same things over and over and I'm BORED. So our plan from now on: trying a minimum of one new recipe per week.

So here's this week's menu with 6 new recipes!

Saturday: Chili. Chili is one of those things that I just throw stuff in and it comes out delicious.

Sunday: Some sort of chicken with Scalloped Hasselback Potatoes (I bought a whole chicken, so now I'm looking for something to do with it)

Monday: Three Cheese Pasta Bake

Tuesday: Cheesy Chicken Kiev with Rice and Broccoli

Wednesday: Spaghetti

Thursday: Best Pork Chops Ever with Rice and Asparagus. The pork chops call for dry italian mix, and I found this recipe that I'll use.

Friday: Pepperoni Pizza Rolls

Here's to an exciting culinary week!

Weekly Menu

Last week was good. We deviated slightly though, Monday ended up being leftovers. Tuesday we tried a new recipe with the crockpot drumsticks and they were pretty good.

I did crockpot pork chops on Wednesday, which involved dumping bbq sauce on the pork and turning it on low. I was mighty impressed with my crockpot skills this week!

I can't seem to remember what we had on Thursday and Friday, so it probably wasn't spectacular.

Now, this week's menu is brought to you by Jason.

Saturday: Tacos! Corn tortillas, Mango Avocado Salsa, Southwest Chicken and Beef, with lettuce and sour cream.

Sunday: Pizza

Monday and Tuesday: Kaleb and I are out of town so my hubby is going to have to fend for himself

Wednesday: Crockpot Pork Tenderloin

Thursday: Salmon with Oven Cauliflower

Friday: We are headed home for the weekend, so who knows what we'll have.

This week's menu

Last week was just ok. We barely followed our menu and paid for it (in more ways then one).

Hopefully this week will be better:

Saturday: Pizza

Sunday: Shepherd's Pie

Monday: Drumsticks (probably in the crockpot) with I have no idea for sides.

Tuesday: Pork Chops with rice

Wednesday: Crock pot meal of some sort

Thursday: to be determined, but probably leftovers

Friday: Pizza

As you can see this week will be pretty low key, I'm still feeling a little under the weather and really don't feel like going all out.

This Week's Menu

So obviously I haven't written my weekly menu in about a month. This does not mean that we have not been eating though, cause we have. Especially me. I've gained over 5 pounds SINCE New Year's. Not during Christmas, during the month of January. That my friends, is what I like to call talent.

The only outstanding thing we made during those weeks was homemade French Onion Soup. My awesome husband basically followed this recipe. The only thing we did different was we used a box of beef broth instead of the chicken. We also didn't have bread or gruyere, so we used butter croutons and mozzarella. It was really good, even Kaleb couldn't get enough.

This week's menu is going to look something like this:

Saturday: Pulled pork with oven fries.

Sunday: Chicken legs with home fries and broccoli with cheese sauce. I'll probably do a variation of this recipe for the chicken.

Monday: Left over pulled pork with salad

Tuesday: Pork chops with rice and bok choy

Wednesday: Some sort of crockpot meal

Thursday: Burritos with Mexican Rice.

Friday: Pizza! (I've been making my dough a little differently lately, and we like it much better. Check out how here.)

I'm thinking it's going to be a delicious week.

This Week's Menu

Last week was awesome, although we ended up not having the rose (it'll be on this week's menu). Everything else was great though.

This week's menu is super simple; turkeys were on sale, so we decided to grab one and get 3 meals out of it.

Saturday: We were at my Christmas party, so no need to cook.

Sunday: Turkey with mashed potatoes, stuffing and veggies

Monday: Hot Turkey Sandwiches with leftover mashed potatoes

Tuesday: Pork chops with Basmatti Rice and Asparagus cooked with Bacon (everything goes great with bacon!)

Wednesday: Stuffing topped chicken pot pie

Thursday: Homemade Rosée sauce with Tortellini

Friday: To be decided

This week's menu

Last week's menu was pretty awesome. The Stuffing Topped Chicken Potpie was simply amazing, the homemade cream soup really made all the difference. The new Chinese place in town was delish, everything is made fresh and contains no MSG, and you can really tell. The Chicken Kiev was pretty awesome too. My oil was too hot though, so I ended up finishing them up in the oven. Friday we ended up freezer diving.

Without further ado, here is this week's menu:

Saturday: Pizza with homemade crust

SundayDouble Crunch Honey Garlic Chicken with Roasted Cauliflower and Rice

Monday: Homemade Rosée sauce with Tortellini

Tuesday: Sausage with Broccoli and Roasted Potatoes

WednesdayButter Chicken with Basmatti rice

Thursday: Mongolian Beef with Bok Choy and Broccoli Stir Fry

Friday: We are at Jason's Christmas Party, and we'll be bringing Mini Taco Bites
